In the year 1425 D.H the Erydian Empire, the vast and powerful human nation, came under attack. Multiple vassal-states, that is kingdoms who owed fealty and service to another, of the Erydian Empire dropped from communication. Entire cities, once bustling metropolises, had their populations vanish in the course of a month. Rumors of undead armies and mythical orcs with black skin plagued the stories which did come from those lands and most terrifyingly the armies of The Empire which were in those areas vanished as well. Erydia was stunned and the rest of the world prepared for an attack but none came.
The Emperor of Erydia, Regis Amund, son of Vasilis Amund, issued a “Call to Arms”. Those who came to heed the call were ordered upon an expedition to the town of “Four Rivers” a small hovel that had been destroyed in the war. This order was secret and the Emperor’s men stressed that Four Rivers would be a staging ground for an assault and to be kept secret. The next three months were brutal as the caravan, under the lead of Valence Aetius, marched across the wilds in secret. After finally arriving their numbers which once totaled 500 had dwindled to a single hundred or less. The town, Four Rivers, was renamed Crossroads and the small thorpe now served as the Empire's last hope.
It has been two years since that village's founding and politics have shaped the region. The threat which took the southern kingdoms of Vlarisia, Greca, and Ottenby is known now to be a dark and mysterious lord who uses the corpses of fallen soldiers to do his work.
To the north and east of Four Rivers lay the land of Ottenby, a once proud nation of barons and kings it is now mostly a wasteland. Ottenby is now ruled by a regent. Duke Alfgeir Brammson, the duke of the Ottlandish duchy of Valera, has acted as King Regent during this time with the blessing of the Emperor. Ottenby faces serious threats. Most of its land has been conquered by the Dark Lord to the south, its eastern border is threatened by Lazarusan knights and its western border risks war with Greca and its baron's now fight for neutrality so as to not provoke a war with Greca. Its baronies include Vinländ, Vörnbörg, Svendkøge, and Ølsholm. Ottenby uses Four Rivers as a buffer state to keep war from reaching itself. It considers itself first and Four Rivers is not a part of it. It may only be a matter of time before Ottenby claims Four Rivers as its own.
To the west of Four Rivers lay the land of Greca, led by its rightful ruler and king Odo Louis III. Greca was conquered by the Dark Lord and, like many people in the southern kingdoms, the Grecans fled north and relocated to the Imperial City. After a year of politics the Emperor ruled that Greca had the right to claim Vlarisian lands as its own and to raise an army. Further, it had a duty with that army to retake Greca. Odo Louis III, the distant cousin of the now deposed Grecan King, was named heir to the throne and with his coronation a new Greca was born. Greca has Imperial backing, strong and central infrastructure, and a rich history. It has already begun reclaiming its former lands and its interests loom over Four Rivers and its lands. There is no doubt- Four Rivers will become Grecan in time.
And to the south? The Dark Lord's forces have not diminished and some fear he will use the disunity of the region against it in a coming invasion.
When you create your character with the assistance of the Plot Team you will choose the race of your character first: Are you a Human, a Dwarf, or an Orc? It is recommended that you play a human. If human, you will then choose between playing a Grecan, an Ottlander, or an Erydian.
The main focus of the game is faction building. From the moment you decide to join Avegost members of the in play factions whether they be baronies, groups of outlaws, a tribe of orcs, or grecan spies will be trying to get you involved in their faction. From the start people will want you to be a part of their group and join them. You can decide not to start the game in one of these groups and be more of a "lone wolf" character but be aware that feeding yourself, protecting yourself, and finding a roof to put over your head can be very difficult to accomplish alone. Besides- its not as fun!
Some of these groups will have stipulations. To be a member of one of the baronies you may have to swear homage and fealty to a Lord. A lord who is another player and who has his own machinations and interests. Under his rule your character may be asked to commit crimes, fight in a war, or retreat as others fall in battle. Benefits come with serfdom as well however, as you are protected from many criminal charges by your Baron's influence alone for a good Lord will not let one of his men suffer a trial if he can help it. Perhaps being a member of a faction of outlaws means other players may try to capture you when they see you and bring you to justice? Not having a faction can be just as dangerous as those who don't have friends don't have anyone to protect them.
You'll be faced with many of these decisions and the Plot Team of Avegost, its core storytelling and judicial staff, will do everything in its power to help and advise you through e-mail.
