Plot Synopsis

In 1426 D.H, an Orc tribe in the Khan'Dur Plains accomplishes what few tribes before it have done; conquer. It has defeated the other tribes of the area, all but one, and its new leadership seeks peace with their dwarven enemies to the west. The Brak Tribe, progressive for its time, sends one of its youngest leaders to meet with dwarven delegates, Korlo, the Murderer. Korlo's journey is met with hostility and he is attacked by a dwarven outpost, losing all of his entourage but himself. He stumbles into a nearby village, Deephill Largen and is apprehended. A dwarf living in the village, Beredwel Gorgon, a conman who has recently secured a favor from Sir O'Neal sees something in the Orc. Beredwel, having recently lost his father and inherited the responsibilities of the head of his house, believes the Orcs good intentions to be true and requests the Knight free the Orc. Sir O'Neal does so, and the two men form a friendship.

After an attack on his home by Lilandian rangers in search of a piece of an ancient artifact that they believe Beredwel's father once possessed, Beredwel sets off to discover who his father really may have been. With Korlo to accompany him and a new ally, Ulfgar Morgoth a priest of Gusur to give him moral guidance, Beredwel sets off on a journey that changes the shape of the world. In his journey he joins with Nognar Ironforge, Aliandra Tallman, and his half-dragon companion Alesandra. They're journey continues for a time until the defeat of The Evercowled.

Plot Overview

The story begins with humble beginnings and the four dwarves and their Orc companion travel throughout the dwarven lands performing quests of heroism and expanding their name. Eventually, they are recruited by the dwarven king to go south to Wintergate and discover why the dwarves of Wintergate are no longer communicating with them. Upon arriving, the crew defeat a Frost Giant and becoming heroes to the Oilenonair of the area. In the ruins they find the previous commander of Wintergate in possession of an odd sphere, a magical item, and they take it from him after his death. Keeping the sphere, they are informed by the king's men that they are to travel to Erydia for more information. Along the road our heroes discover that the church of Iritnel, a cultic god of chaos, is after the sphere. Battling the church, they slowly but surely defeat Iritnel's forces within the Golden City of Erydia Major and return the sphere to their dwarven king. The dwarves are then told to stop a possible rebellion in Suthrut, the southern dwarven kingdom. They do so and discover that the dwarven ruler of that city is also in possession of a similar sphere. After fighting an undead sorcerer, later identified as Klaxx they are ambushed and the sphere is stolen from them. At first they suspect their old nemesis the followers of Iritnel but they later discover it to be the leader of a Vruuk army to the south, an undead sorcerer they suspect to be Klaxx.

After daring fights and defeating the last mate of Nirandir the heroes find the Lilandian and are captured by them. Discussion reveals that the spheres are magical Orbs known as the Orbs of the Aurai. The heroes venture into the Blighted Lands and recover the Orb. As they return to Naurion the elf-king, Mar'ivi'lador takes the Orb for his own but relinquishes it before his people are destroyed by The Evercowled. The heroes discover that The Evercowled is known as Peligrun by the Lilandian and is a great danger. With the Lilandian no more, the dwarves return on a dragon tamed by Korlo to the plains of Khan'Dur. There, a final battle ensues between The Evercowled and the dwarves of the northern kingdom, the Finonair.

Korlo, Beredwel, Ulfgar, and Nognar find that the they are all the products of an ancient tryst begun by unknown origins in which they are four pieces of five of an ancient and forgotten deity. The fifth piece, they discover, is that of Peligrun himself. They defeat Peligrun and his undead hordes are destroyed by the dwarven armies with the help of the Erydians from the south. Omoriandria, a princess of the Illivriel, uses the last of her powers to control the Orbs of the Aurai and recreate the Lilandian who were destroyed by the Dark Lord. In doing so she is forever turned to stone.
